Meet Your Instructor

Hey, I’m Lindsey Samples

Theater Artist, Educator, Parent

M.Ed. Youth Development Leadership

As a theater artist I've been lucky enough to train in getting inside someone's story and trying my best to learn why they say and do what they do. It's called empathy. And turns out it is really helpful in the classroom.

Most of the theater I have been a part of creating has been multi-disciplinary, meaning, involving several different art forms in one show. So when I visit a classroom for an artist residency, I am able to draw on this array of self-expression.

In between gigs as an artist I substitute teach. What I have found is that because of my artist training, I have been equipped with tools to diffuse chaos in a room, create a sense of belonging, and build avenues for students to connect with what they're learning.

I believe these tools can be used even if you don't have training in the arts. I believe that using these tools will develop empathy in your classroom. And I believe that when empathy and creativity get a chance to blossom in young people, we will raise a generation of humans who are able to lead with care.
